Ms. Averkamp ~ 6th grade Science

We are off to a great start.  We have been practicing how to read thermometers in both Celsius and Fahrenheit.  This week, we will go outside and find the temperature of the water near the shoreline of Lake Winnebago.  We will compare the data from all of the classes and graph it.  Skills such as measuring, graphing, comparing data, and explaining trends continue to be valuable as students prepare for high school science classes.

In October, we will start using our online science textbook from McGraw Hill.  Students can access it by going into classlink.  Our first unit will be electromagnetism.

Materials:  Each student should have pencils for class, charged Chromebook, and earbuds/headphones.  The science composition notebook is usually kept in the classroom, but some students may choose to take it home at night to review.

“Sing Out! Tenor and Bass Festival” 

On Friday, September 16, Dr. Nguyen took 15 tenor and bass 7th & 8th grade choir students (Webster and Merrill) to Helene Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts at the UW-Milwaukee campus. Students rehearsed, watched a performance by the UWM Kameraden Tenor-Bass Choir, and then performed alongside 250 other middle school students and 800 high school students!

Student Absences

Regular attendance at school is imperative to academic success. In the event that your child is unable to attend school, a parent or guardian must call the school 920.424.0442 by 9:30 a.m. on the day of the absence. If no one is able to receive your call, please leave a message with your name, the student’s name, and the reason for the absence on the school voicemail.  If no communication is made with the office, calls will be made to parents/guardians and a letter may be sent home.  The student will be recorded as unexcused until the parent/guardian contacts the office to excuse the student. The State of Wisconsin allows us to excuse only 10 days of absence per year, including those related to illness. Any days in excess of 10 are considered truancy. 

If a child is absent for two or more days at a time, a parent may call before 9:00 a.m. to request homework from teachers. Assignments may then be picked up in the office at 3:30 p.m. on that same day. Students are responsible for collecting their own homework for absences less than two days.  Students are given two days to complete homework for every day they are absent.
