Welcome to the new year of Art Class! Right off the bat, I would like  to say that I still have all the artworks created by last year's 6th and 7th graders, including work that was saved from first semester for display at Fine Arts Night(which of course was cancelled). I hope that students will stop in to claim their work or email me to say who their advisor is, and I will get the work out to them.

I am looking forward to meeting or getting reacquainted with all of this year's students! Because our sharing of supplies and tools will  need to be limited, students are asked to have their own basic supplies. This kit should include: sketchbook, pencils, erasers, hand sharpener, colored pencils(24+), markers, black sharpie, small set of watercolors, scissors, liquid glue and glue stick, if possible.

They will not need to carry all their supplies all the time, but will need to use many of them both in the classroom and at home. We will also use systems for checking out special supplies, so that they don't need to be shared and can be used at home. This means greater responsibility for keeping track of Art tools and returning them. Please encourage your students to pack things up after use at home and discourage other family members from playing with Art tools. I hope to include as much of the regular content of each class as possible, but some things may be smaller or modified, in order to allow them to be worked with at home. We will put our creativity to us in all kinds of ways!

Ms. Averkamp ~ 6th grade science

Welcome back to school!  It is certainly a time of mixed emotions.  As our journey begins, some of my priorities are to:  build positive relationships with my students, teach them how to navigate through our lessons online and to promote curiosity while exploring scientific events in our world.  I am continually searching for creative ways to incorporate hands-on science activities that adhere to Co-Vid safety protocol.  Our online textbook is called Amplify.  Sixth grade is a physical science based platform and the online book has many simulators that students enjoy.  

I am truly grateful that we are returning to the building.  I am looking forward to getting to know the special 6th grader(s) in your life.  I am sending you best wishes for health and happiness.

Hello and Welcome Back!

I hope that you and your family had a relaxing summer vacation.  My name is Cara Wege and I am the School Counselor at Webster Stanley Middle School.  I previously was a School Psychologist for 13 years and am starting my 5th year at WSMS as the School Counselor.

Although this school year is going to look different in many ways, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, personal, and social development of all students.  I look forward to offering support to the students, staff, families, and the Oshkosh community.  Whether it is in person or virtually, I will meet with students individually and/or in small group, conduct classroom lessons, meet with parents, collaborate with teachers and staff and work with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of all Webster Stanley Middle School students and families.

The 2020-2021 school year is beginning like no other.  So many unknowns can cause anxiety and stress for parents, educators, and children.  Not only are there concerns about our student’s physical well-being, but their mental health is fragile as well.  We are all experiencing a range of emotions from being excited to be back in school to also being nervous and scared.   What is important is that as adults in our children’s/student’s lives we work together as a team to help support them as they return to school.

PBIS Information

Welcome to Webster Stanley.  We look forward to another great school year! The first few weeks of school we will be introducing and reviewing the Webster Way. The Webster Way is made up of our core expectations which include: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Please be prepared for many changes and curveballs that will arise as the year progresses as no doubt COVID will impact the activities we do this year in a broad way.

As the year begins, we ask that you review Being Safe with your child first and foremost. Please talk to your child about the route they plan on taking to school. Your child should be aware of their surroundings and should know that it is not safe to talk to strangers or accept rides from strangers. They need to use crosswalks, treat all crossing guards with respect, and look both ways when there is not a crossing guard present. Bikes, skateboards, and scooters should be walked across crosswalks and on all school grounds. If riding the district or public transportation, students should understand that this is a privilege that can be revoked if unruly behavior exists.  Students need to be safe and respectful on buses at all times.

Students should know the door they are to enter in the morning according to their grade level. We will try to create social distancing by having DOOR # 1 be for 6th grade. DOOR #3 will be for 7th grade and DOOR #4 will be for 8th grade. Students may enter this door in the morning at 8:11. Parents, please understand that adult supervision will start at 7:50 AM. Please plan accordingly when dropping your child off at school, especially if it is rainy or cold outside. Students will not be able to enter the building earlier. If eating breakfast at school, students will pick that up as they enter the building and head to their advisor class. 

For the safety of your child’s supplies, students should keep their items tidy in their backpacks. Lockers are not being used at this time due to Covid and the need for social distance in the hallways. Students will need to make sure as they go from class to class to keep all of their materials and belongings together so they do not lose things. 

Each classroom has a Webster Way poster which describes what being appropriate looks like in that classroom. Each Teacher also has a Classroom Matrix posted that describes what each teacher’s class expectations look like. Different areas of the school also have a Building Matrix posted that describes what the expectations are in that area of the building, such as the bathroom or bubbler areas. 

During the first weeks of school, we have mini-lessons planned for Advisor time that will focus on what being appropriate and following the Webster Way looks like in a variety of school settings and locations. Due to Covid, we do not plan to have an all building Expectation Week Kickoff as in the past. We will be doing this in a very different manner to promote social distancing. Ask your son or daughter to describe what the Webster Way looks like in different areas of our building.

Students are not allowed to use their cell phones while at school.  If a cell phone is visible during the school hours, it will be confiscated. If it is confiscated 3 times, parents will be notified and the cell phone will need to be picked up by a parent/guardian. All Cell Phones must be turned off and stored in the student's locker.  In case of an emergency, please contact the Main Office to relay important messages to your child.
