Note From The Nurse

Protect Your Health This Flu Season

It’s likely that flu viruses and the virus that causes COVID-19 will both spread this fall and winter. Healthcare systems could be overwhelmed treating both patients with flu and patients with COVID-19. This means getting a flu vaccine during 2020-2021 is more important than ever. While getting a flu vaccine will not protect against COVID-19 there are many important benefits, such as:

  1. Flu vaccines have been shown to reduce the risk of flu illness, hospitalization, and death.
  2. Getting a flu vaccine can also save healthcare resources for the care of patients with COVID-19.
  3. Contrary to belief the flu vaccine does not make you sick, it does activate your antibodies which means your body is preparing to fight off the flu virus!
  4. As alway, please wash your hands or use hand sanitizer that contains at least
60% alcohol in it, distance and wear your mask! ðŸ˜·

IReady at Home Winter Diagnostics for Middle School

 | ESPAÑOL | HMOOB | KISWAHILI | عربى | ESOL Summarized

Hello Families,

The Oshkosh Area School District is continuing to use the  i-Ready math and reading assessment for grades K-8. Your child’s math and literacy teacher will be assigning the winter iReady diagnostic to be completed at home between December 1-22, 2020. Step by step directions for taking iReady at home can be found here. Students may get an “Install Lockdown” message. If so, please follow these directions: Student Lockdown Instructions. Please note that the iReady assessment is open from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Below you will find some helpful information on taking the iReady diagnostic at home.

What is i-Ready?

i-Ready is an online assessment platform that will help us determine your child’s needs, personalize his or her learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child exactly where he or she is and provides data for us to increase your child’s learning gains.

The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on his or her answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade, but instead to determine how best to support your child’s learning in the classroom.

What if my child needs to take the iReady diagnostic at home?

You’ll be tempted to help on the test. We get it—the i-Ready test is hard. But this test is not for a grade. It helps teachers give your child the best instruction possible.

Think of it this way—would you help your child with a vision test?  No, because hints won’t help the eye doctor help them. With i-Ready, hints on the test now could negatively impact your child’s instruction later.

Thank you for supporting your child in taking this assessment at home. Your child’s teacher will use this information to plan lessons that best meet the needs of your child. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
