March is Youth Art Month! We’re very pleased that the Oshkosh Women’s Arts Club is still holding its annual Helen Mears Art Contest. At this time, the following students will have work in the show. In the Two-Dimensional Category, 7th graders Alexis Hayes, Myranda King, Liam Jepsen, Ava Duran, Andrew Oehler, and Everix Blessent will have their Shattered Values Drawings entered; 8th graders, Moira O’Hara and Gwen Evenson, will have their Impressionist Pastel Drawings entered. In the Three-Dimensional Category, 8th graders entered will be Mary Newman, for her Expressive Relief Sculpture, Josh Rivers, for his Plaster Gauze Letter, and Travis Trayling, for his Alter Ego Sculpture. In the Digital Category, 8th graders, Katelynn Sturtz, Dayshia Darden, and Mary Newman, will enter their Digital Collages. Because the entry deadline is delayed to March 17 this year, a few additional pieces may be added. The display will be offered in a digital fashion, so I hope to share links for that in the future. We have been incorporating math and graphing skills into our science labs.  Students are starting to use the terms:  controlled variables, manipulated variable and responding variable.  

Students should have earbuds/headphones to use during times when videos are being used in class.  Please check to see that your young adult keeps a set in his/her Chromebook case or backpack.  This allows students to have more opportunities to make choices about their learning and to work at their own pace.  Thank you.
 

PBIS Newsletter

This month we have focused on a few different expectations that we are encouraging our students to follow as part of our Webster Way. The core expectations include: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe.

Covid has been a big concern on the minds of everyone.  As we transition into all students being in the building at once again, we are focusing on being responsible by using proper hand sanitizing and hand washing techniques. Students need to do their part in practicing good hygiene to help keep themselves and others healthy. We are all in this together!

One way students can practice being safe is to MASK UP.  It is a lot easier on everyone if students make it a habit to wear their mask appropriately without having to be reminded. To be clear, the mask needs to be worn appropriately at all times, which means over the nose and mouth (outside of eating or drinking). As a school we will do the best we can to mitigate the risks of having many students together in a small area, but students can help to be one our biggest helpers in making this happen safely if they do their part. We are all in this together!

One way students can practice being respectful is to practice social distancing. Students can help by trying to maintain a distance from others so that we do not have a large number of students who need to be quarantined due to someone becoming sick and finding out they were in close proximity to a large number of students due to not practicing social distancing.  Being 6 feet away from others will be difficult, but we will do the best we can...as much as possible.
Again, We are all in this together!

We ask students to be respectful by not walking in the mud and wet areas outside that come during this season so we don’t track mud into the building in addition to getting soaked clothes, socks, and shoes.  Thank you for helping Webster look like the great school that it is.

We would like students to be safe by staying off and away from the ice and any ice shoves that may start to form at this time of the year and through April.  While ice shoves can be quite interesting to look at, they are very dangerous and even deadly as they crack, move, and fall.  

We have reviewed the expectation of being on time to school and scheduled classes and problem solved locker issues, bathroom needs, forgetfulness, and wanting to talk with friends between classes.  Students were encouraged to be responsible and get to their classes on time. 

We continue to encourage the safe use of the internet and chromebooks. Please have a conversation at home about the different forms of Cyberbullying and what it looks like.  Students have learned and should know what it means to cross the line into being inappropriate. Please discuss what Internet Phishing is with your child.  A phishing attack happens when someone tries to trick you into sharing personal information online.  Phishing is usually done through email, ads, or sites that look similar to sites you already use. Students were informed to be aware about phishing.  We continue to give students the tools to be safe and encourage them to make appropriate choices in doing so when using the internet. It is very important to have these discussions to prevent problems from coming up on the internet.

Updated OASD Free School Meal Distribution

Update as of Wednesday, April 7: Free school meals will be available at one distribution time and location only. The distribution will be Wednesdays from 5 - 7 p.m. at Oshkosh West High School (main parking lot - enter on Taft Avenue and exit on Eagle Street). Those accessing free meals cannot enter the school parking lot until 4 p.m. to allow students and staff to safely exit the area before the distribution begins..

Free Family Food Boxes: In addition to a week’s worth of school meals, families will also be able to receive Farm to Family Food Boxes - a partnership with Feeding America. LEARN MORE

NOTE: No school meals will be sent home with students at the end of their in-person learning days at this time. Families looking for additional school meals for virtual learning days are asked to visit the distribution sites on Wednesdays to receive those meals.

Meal Distribution Details:

• Meals will be distributed for five days at a time and will include a breakfast, lunch, and supper for each day. 
• Milk will be offered with all meals. 
• Meals are available and are free to anyone age 18 and under. 
• Children do not need to be present to receive free meals, a parent/guardian or sibling may pick up meals. 
• Children do not need to be enrolled in the Oshkosh Area School District to receive free meals.
